Race Details

Come be a part of the Tucson Marathon Events and share the distance with up to three friends and enjoy beautiful Tucson winter weather, with temperatures at the start averaging in the low 40s/high 30s and reaching 65-70 degrees by 11 a.m.

A Marathon Relay team can be comprised of 2-4 runners.  Awards will be broken down into the following divisions: All Female; All Male, Coed.

 

  • Race Info

    Relay Information with exact details on relay points, maps, parking and transportation will be available as printable PDF docs before race day.   A limited number of copies will be available at the Expo, but we strongly urge all relay runners to become fully familiar with this important information by accessing our reference PDF docs in advance of race day, and printing their own copies if needed for reference. Each team will receive a baton, with timing chip attached, and a parking permit at the Expo.

    Each Team will run distances as follows:
    1st Leg = 5.9 Miles – exchange across from the Circle K on American Ave & Rockliffe Blvd;

    2nd Leg = 7.2 Miles – exchange on the Biosphere Rd, at the Half Marathon Starting Line (on the return leg to Hwy#77).

    3rd leg = 5.8 Miles – exchange at Oracle Jct (across from Lupe’s restaurant)- Hwy 77 & Hwy 80;

    4th leg = 7.3 Miles to Finish Line

    RACE DAY INFO

    Check the NEWS page for the most current information. No race day registration or packet pick-up is available. The team member running the first relay leg must take a shuttle bus to the official marathon starting line; other team members must go directly to the next relay exchange on the course.  The Marathon Relay course closes at 1:30 p.m. and intermediate cut-offs will be enforced along the course.

    NOTE: Relay runners other than the team member running the first relay are responsible for their own transportation and MUST follow any/all parking regulations.  If you are part of a fast team, please be sure that the second runners is past Biosphere Rd. by 6:45am; Oracle Rd will be temporarily closed between Oracle Junction (Hwy 79) and Biosphere Road at 7am, once the Half Marathon participants filter out onto Oracle Road from Biosphere Rd.  Feel free to stop into Casa Rivera, a quaint restaurant across from the Circle K right at Relay Exchange Point #1…they open at 6:30am on Sunday.

  • Important

    Relay runners other than the team member running the first relay are responsible for their own transportation and MUST follow any/all parking regulations.  If you are part of a fast team, please be sure that the second runners is past Biosphere Rd. by 6:45am; Oracle Rd will be temporarily closed between Oracle Junction (Hwy 79) and Biosphere Road at 7am, once the Half Marathon participants filter out onto Oracle Road from Biosphere Rd.  Feel free to stop into Casa Rivera, a quaint restaurant across from the Circle K right at Relay Exchange Point #1…they open at 6:30am on Sunday.

    For the safety of everyone, all competitors must stay inside of the safety cones at all times. Anyone who runs outside of the cones will be disqualified.  NO EXCEPTIONS!  Baby Joggers/Strollers ARE NOT allowed on the course at any time.

  • Packet Pick-Up

    Packet Pick-up will be available at the Tucson Marathon Expo, on  Friday, December 8 (9:00am - 7:00pm) at the Hilton Tucson El Conquistador, 10000 N. Oracle Rd. Race packet pick-up and walk-in registration will be available. To make things easier, Team Captains can pick-up packets for all team members (by simply providing the names of each person on the team).

    You will need to pick up the following items:

    • Bib # with chip
    • Technical T-shirt(s)
    • Packet (goodie bag will be for your drop clothes on race morning)
    • Relay Baton (which will have the race timing chip) & Relay Parking Permit (Marathon Relay only – one per team)

    We strongly recommend that all runners access these PDF docs on the web site, and fully familiarize themselves with any/all details in advance of race weekend.

  • Aid Stations

    Aid Stations will be placed at the following locations along the course: Start, 2.4mi, 3.9mi, 5.9mi, 7.6mi, 10.2mi, 11.7mi, 13.2 mi, 15.3mi, 16.9mi, 19.0mi, 20.0mi, 21.0mi, 21.9mi, 22.9mi, 24.0mi, 25.1mi, Finish Line. Water will be available at all aid stations.  Gatorade’s Endurance Formula (Lemon-Lime) is the official on-course sports drink of the Tuscon Marathon, Half Marathon, and Marathon Relay and will be available at the above aid station locations.  As part of a five-electrolyte blend of sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium and chloride, Gatorade Endurance Formula is a specialized sports drink designed to help sustain hydration during prolonged training and racing when fluid and electrolyte losses can be significant. It contains nearly twice the sodium (200mg) and more than three times the potassium (90mg) of Gatorade Thirst Quencher to help sustain hydration, maintain proper fluid balance and replace the critical electrolytes lost in sweat during these occasions.

    Aid Stations Closing Times are as follows: 2.4mi = 7:35am;  3.9mi = 8am; 5.9mi = 8:30am;  7.6mi = 9am; 10.2 mi = 9:35am;  11.7mi = 10am;  13.2mi = 10:20am; 15.3mi = 10:50am; 16.9mi = 11:15am; 18.9mi = 11:50am;  20.0mi = 12:05pm; 21.0mi = 12:20pm; 21.9mi = 12:40pm; 22.9mi = 12:55pm;  24.0mi = 1:05pm, 25.1mi = 1:20pm, Finish Line = 1:30pm

    FINISH LINE

    Food and drinks are provided at the Finish Line for race participants only.

    Shuttle Buses will return participants from the Finish Line to the official race parking lots and the official race hotel (Hilton El Conquistador Resort).

    Spectator parking is extremely limited at the Finish Line, at the Golder Ranch Fire Station, which is shared with the Half Marathon.  (Vehicles parked overnight at the Golder Ranch Fire Station, or along Golder Ranch Road on race day, will be ticketed and towed!)  Spectators are encouraged to park at the Coronado Middle School and take the free shuttle to the Finish Line, which will run every 15 minutes.

    AWARDS

    Team Awards include top three teams in male, female & coed divisions.  All relay runners will receive a T-shirt and finisher’s medallion.

    Please park in designated areas or you will be subject to ticketing and/or towing.
